Louie’s Kids Hosts 2nd Annual Big Chef / Little Chef Event

+TOP CHEFS AND CHILDREN TEAM UP TO CREATE RECIPES FOR HEALTHY LIVING+

Louie’s Kids is preparing for its 2nd annual Big Chef/Little Chef fundraiser on Thursday, June 17. The event has attracted Charleston’s top chefs for this one-of-a-kind gastronomic event where guests will taste delicious culinary creations courtesy of the “big chefs” and their “little” counterparts - all of whom are Louie’s Kids participants.

“The participating chefs are some of the best in the area - in the country for that matter - and there will be live music by the legendary Hank Futch of the Blue Dogs and, of course, the magic of Lowndes Grove Plantation, this year’s venue. It’s going to be a wonderful evening” says Louie’s Kids founder Louis Yuhasz. “Our primary goal for this event is to teach Louie’s Kids program participants that local ingredients paired with healthy preparations can make cooking both delicious and fun!”

From 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, the twosomes will present their creations “Iron Chef” style with samples of their prepared dishes. After guests weigh in, the winners will be chosen by a few celebrity guests - Emmy Award-nominated television host, chef and author, Marvin Woods along with Biggest Loser, Season 6 finalists Heba Salama and Ed Brantley. The contestants will be judged on flavor, originality, and nutritional value of their dish.

One of last year’s chefs, Cypress’ Craig Deihl, praises the event, “My ‘little chef’ and I took the Cutting Board prize last year – that was a significant honor for us both. It was also eye opening for us - he worked pretty hard during our day in the kitchen and at the event. It's clear to see that being part of this organization has made a real difference in his life.”

The Big Chef/Little Chef event will also officially kick-off a new initiative for Louie’s Kids called Run Buddies. This program will bring athletic mentors to the doors of children who need them the most. Mentors and kids will join to run, walk, or pursue other athletic endeavors.
